SAFE Boats’ Tacoma Production Facility is located about 45 minutes south-east of our Bremerton HQ at the Port of Tacoma. The Tacoma Production Facility was designed for construction of vessels up to 130 feet in length. This location includes nearly 50,000 sq. ft. accommodating six production bays, office space, break rooms, and outdoor space for a paint tent and pull test (weld test) area.
Since the Tacoma Production Facility is located adjacent to Commencement Bay, sea trials and other launch and recovery operations are very convenient for craft both large and small.
The History of Large Craft at SAFE Boats
SAFE has built over 2,500 aluminum boats in numerous sizes and configurations over our 25-year history. We specialize in custom vessel designs with complex structural, mechanical, electrical, and rigging systems specific to each customer’s needs. Our SAFE Full Cabin-Inboard (65 feet/20 meters) is one of the largest and most agile vessels in its class with multiple examples in operation all around the globe. The SAFE 65 Full Cabin-Inboard features a wide beam design for solid performance in heavy seas, and a spacious, climate-controlled cabin for crew comfort and safety. The hull design enables it to perform like a much smaller, traditionally more maneuverable platform. Another large craft designed and manufactured by SAFE is the Mk VI Patrol Boat (84 feet/26 meters). Initially designed to be the U.S. Navy’s next generation patrol boat, the Mk VI provides operational commanders the capability to patrol shallow littoral areas beyond sheltered harbors and bays and into less sheltered open water for the purpose of force protection of friendly and coalition forces and critical infrastructure. Design and construction of both these vessels are a testament to SAFE’s comprehensive project management, manufacturing skills, and quality assurance program – ensuring on-time and on-budget deliveries of large crafts.
