The employee ownership difference – benefits, mindset, and culture

What exactly does it mean to be an employee-owned company?

Because we have no outside shareholders, all of our profits go to exactly two places: reinvested right back into the company or shared directly with our Employee Owners. When the business succeeds, you reap the financial rewards.

How do I become eligible for shares, and how does vesting work?

Shares are distributed annually to all eligible team members. To qualify, you simply need to be at least 18 years old and work a minimum of 1,000 hours per year. Your earned shares will then fully vest over a six-year period.

Does the share program replace a standard retirement plan?

Not at all. When you eventually retire or leave the organization, the company buys back your shares. This creates a powerful, additional stream of income that stacks directly on top of our standard 401K plan, which includes a 4% company match.

How does this ownership model affect the day-to-day culture on the floor?

When everyone has a stake in the company, people care more, work harder, and actively support each other. We share a strict commitment to results because we all benefit from them directly. Because of this, we do not tolerate slackers. You will never have to pick up the extra weight just because a coworker isn’t “feeling it today.”

Will I actually be treated like a shareholder?

Absolutely. We treat you like a shareholder because you are one. All Employee Owners receive regular, transparent updates on exactly how the business is performing. Furthermore, we actively solicit your feedback to help prioritize our company goals and spending.

What is the company’s philosophy on spending and investments?

We spend our money on what matters and refuse to waste it on what doesn’t. You will not find expensive board of director retreats, exclusive executive washrooms, or fancy corporate furniture here. We invest our capital directly into our people and the resources we need to efficiently build our kick @$$ boats to the highest standards possible.
