Continuous Improvement Manager


JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for leading the Continuous Improvement initiatives at the facility. This position will require an experienced Lean leader, preferably with heavy industry manufacturing background and experience. This position requires an individual that is able to facilitate and drive change in a fast paced and "ever changing" environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills. Key to success in this position is the ability to work within the organization at all levels utilizing a very "hands on" approach to creating value and buy-in as the lead change facilitator for the plant's Lean transformation. This position will provide leadership, planning, technical direction, communication and coaching skills to ensure safe production of high quality products to meet customer needs in the most cost effective manner.

 

Hours: Full time: Days 7am-4:30pm M-F (Flexiable start time for an 8 hour shift)

Salary: Depends on Experience

FSLA Status: Exempt

The Continuous Improvement Manager will be responsible for the following:

Leadership

  • As part of the Leadership Team, drive the business performance to meet the Business Goals and Objectives  
  • As a member of the Leadership Team provide Leadership and Direction for Continuous Improvement.
  • Give the Leadership Team guidance on C.I. Leadership, Philosophy and Approach and how to develop a culture of full employee engagement.


C.I. Program Management

  • Work with the Factory Functional Management Team to identify opportunities for improvement that support the factory achieving its Goals and Objectives
  • Teach, by theory and by example, the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) approach.
  • Select and manage external partners - where required.
  • Prepare and manage a budget for C.I. activities.
  • Plan and organize improvement events.
  • Conduct reviews to assess the effectiveness of improvement activity and to draw out the lessons learned.
  • Constantly review the factory improvement activities for effectiveness and adjust the approach as required.


Coaching / Training / Facilitation

  • Deliver training: Some training in Lean Principles C.I. tools and methods will be delivered by the C.I. Manager some will be delivered by external partners.
  • Facilitate improvement meetings / events in the factory.
  • Coach improvement teams in data collection and analysis to enable improvement results to be assessed and analyzed.
  • Coach and mentor all employees in use of data, graphical analysis and ‘speaking with data'.
  • Coach the improvement team in the use of appropriate improvement tools and methods. 
  • Guide the teams through a structured improvement process.


Communication

  • Facilitate and manage the Communication of C.I. Strategy from the Global Operations team to the factory. 
  • Facilitate and manage the communication of C.I. activity to COO & VP OPS.
  • Create and maintain visual displays and storyboards within the factory to propagate the C.I. message and inform every one of the ongoing activities.
  • Prepare Executive Summary Reports on  C.I. activity


Reporting Relationship

The Continuous Improvement Manager shall report directly to the COO and have a dotted line to the VP OPS
